Docu Magazine: Special Edition — Sensibilities
The Life of Florentine Luthier Dario Vettori
 
Sensibilities is a documentary project completed in May 2025 in Florence, Italy. Over the course of three months, photographer Michael Luzzio documented the daily life of master luthier Dario Vettori, a member of the Vettori family—renowned for their multi-generational contributions to the craft of instrument making in Florence and beyond.
 
Through a series of candid photographs and in-depth interviews, this issue offers a detailed portrait of a working luthier whose craft is closely tied to his personal life. The focus of the series is the creation of a cello, with each stage—from the selection of raw materials to the final adjustments—carefully recorded. The project also explores how Dario’s approach to his work reflects a broader set of values and practices that extend beyond the workshop
