Sensibilities is a body of work completed in May 2025, in Florence, Italy. Over the course of three months, photographer and artist Michael Luzzio documented the daily life of master luthier Dario Vettori, an instrument maker and member of the Vettori Family of luthiers, whose legacy has shaped the craft of
instrument making in Florence and around the world for generations.
The photographs primarily focus on the creation of a cello, capturing each stage of construction, from the selection of raw materials to the final adjustments, illuminating the nuanced touch and intuition Dario brings to every instrument he crafts. Beyond the workshop, this body of work also reveals Dario’s unique set of “sensibilities” extending from his artistry and occupation as a luthier, into other areas of his life.
